Emily Kim is a designer and researcher of landscapes.

She received her Masters in Landscape Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design in 2025. Her research examines the production and maintenance of infrastructural and militarized landscapes, with a specific focus on islands and their visual and cultural framing as both ‘paradise’ and ‘wasteland.’

Her work approaches design as a methodological practice, employing cartographic analysis, archival research, and visual storytelling to render spatial histories legible. Central to her practice is the question of access—who gets to see, to know, to belong—and how design can expose or redraw these boundaries.

She is currently based in Ireland, where she works with a research team merging landscape biography and digital twin technology to study the coastal edge of Tramore. She welcomes collaborations that challenge dominant modes of studying, representing, and sharing landscapes. Please get in touch.
