About

Emily Hyojin Kim is currently pursuing her Masters in Landscape Architecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Before returning to school, she worked for 7 years (mainly) as a senior designer, (but also as) a studio manager, systems development consultant, and baker in Brooklyn, NY.

Her research explores the dichotomy of post-WWII representation and (re)construction of islands across the Pacific Ocean as both paradise and wasteland. She is currently focused on airfields of the Pacific Theater, looking at their creation and subsequent maintenance as part of a larger landscape typology that enables(d) this duality.

In her free time, she enjoys digging through archives, taking photos, fermenting things, and developing new baking recipes.
